The Birth of Geriatrics
Geriatrics was first thought about in the early 1900's, from a NY physician named Dr. Ignatz Nascher. This term came from two Greek works, geron (old man) and iatrikos (medical treatment). Before he did something about this, old age was just a type of sickness that had no medication, but this only infuriated Dr. Nascher, he said a doctors job was to stop the suffering and prolong a person life. At the death of Nascher, he stated that he was disappointed the field of geriatrics had not made a greater impact and movement.
